Spending the summer as an intern at Duke University was an incredible opportunity that combined academic growth, hands-on experience, and personal exploration. Being part of such a prestigious institution allowed me to delve into cutting-edge research, meet inspiring peers, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the campus. This internship provided me with valuable insights into the world of scientific research while allowing me to experience the vibrant culture of Duke University.

lots of learning

One of the most exciting aspects of the internship was getting to wear lots of personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in various labs. Each lab had its own set of safety protocols and specialized equipment, from lab coats and gloves to safety goggles and masks. Wearing PPE made me feel like a true scientist and emphasized the importance of safety and precision in research. The hands-on experience in different types of labs, from biology to chemistry, allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of scientific processes and techniques.

chapel

The iconic Duke Chapel, with its Gothic architecture and towering spire, was another highlight of my time at the university. I took several opportunities to visit the chapel, appreciating its magnificent stained glass windows and serene interior. Attending a service or simply sitting in the quiet pews allowed me to soak in the chapel's grandeur and history. It was a place of inspiration and reflection, adding a spiritual dimension to my summer experience.

traveling

Traveling to and from Duke on the Amtrak was an adventure in itself. The journey offered scenic views of the countryside and a chance to meet fellow travelers. Riding the train was a relaxing way to commute, providing time to read, study, or simply enjoy the passing landscapes. The experience of train travel added an element of nostalgia and excitement to my internship, making each trip a memorable part of my summer.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the internship was the interactive activities with fellow interns in the program. We participated in workshops, seminars, and team-building exercises that fostered collaboration and camaraderie. These activities provided a platform to share ideas, discuss research, and build lasting friendships. The diverse backgrounds and perspectives of my peers enriched my experience, and together we created a supportive community that made the summer truly unforgettable.

duke gardens

One of my favorite places on campus was the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, a stunning oasis of lush greenery and colorful blooms. During breaks, I loved strolling through the gardens, enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the carefully curated landscapes. The gardens provided a perfect spot for reflection and relaxation, offering a refreshing escape from the busy lab environment. Whether it was the Asiatic Arboretum or the historic Terrace Gardens, each section of the gardens offered a unique and peaceful atmosphere.
